Fundraising so far

Wednesday, 28 May 2014

There's been quite a considerable radio silence as regards fundraising over the past few months. Here are some of the things I've been doing/organising to raise money:
  • Two Cake Sales
  • A Christmas Quiz
  • Busking carols around Cheltenham
  • Non-school uniform day
  • Valentine's Roses and Sweets delivery
  • Spring concert ticket money at school
  • Spring concert raffle at school
...

All these things have raised a fair amount of money and I am so grateful for everyone that has been a part of it, whether they helped plan or set up things, donated 2p or £20. My school in particular has been very supportive of my fundraising, which has been absolutely great and a massive help. All but two things on the above list have something to do with school, letting me organise certain events there or suggesting things I could put on. I know some schools actually go as far as prohibiting fundraising at school; I don't think I would have got anywhere near where I am now with my fundrasing without them.

Something I was disappointed by was the car-parking at school. In the summer months the PTA let certain community groups have the school field and charge for parking (since ours is a tourist-y village), and they can earn a lot of money from it. I put my name down back in September and it was looking promising, but I was told a couple of months ago now that the PTA is not supporting individuals; just community groups. This is completely understandable, but it didn't stop me feeling disappointed because they've given days to local individuals in the past and it's really helped them out.

On the bright side I've been offered a few hours work over this half term by the Mobility Store in the village, delivering leaflets to the surrounding area. A couple of weeks ago I sent out letters and leaflets to almost every business in the village asking if anyone could support me, and so far two people have come back to me. The coach company, Pulhams, gave me £50 (!!) and the lovely lady at the Mobility Store. She told me that by helping me out, she was doing something for the community, and I was touched by that; it was so nice of her to go out of her way and find something for me to do.

The most recent fundraising event involved me cutting off my hair last Friday, on Year 13's last day before we broke up for study leave. That was well-supported as well; I've had about £200 pledged in sponsorship! It was really lucky that one of the dinnerladies at school was also a hairdresser and agreed to sort my hair out once the most of it was chopped off. It was also fortunate that the last day was beach-themed and there were a lot of water guns hanging about so she could wet my hair to cut it! These are some before, during and after pictures, and a video of the actual cutting off. You can see more of my pictures by going to my flickr (although at the moment it's just Selection and the hair cut).
